AMU Pro Vice Chancellor meets Sharjah University officials during UAE visit
Aligarh, January 6: The Aligarh Muslim University Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) on his recent visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) visited the Sharjah University, where he met with the University Chancellor, Professor Hamid M Al- Naimy and the University Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Dr Salah Tahir Al- Haj.
During the meeting, the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor of the Sharjah University showed interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aligarh Muslim University to promote knowledge sharing and academic exchange. Meanwhile, local media reports in the UAE have stated that this exercise will pave way for better academic exchange programs between Aligarh Muslim University and Sharjah University, while creating better relations between India and the UAE.
During the visit, Brigadier Ali also had a detailed discussion with the Sharjah University’s Dean of Quality Assurance, Professor Esam El Din. The focus of discussion was primarily on academic programs being conducted in both the universities.
Saiyyid Hamid Sr
Secondary School (Boys) organises debate on ‘Digital India: Need of the Hour’
Aligarh, January 6: The
Saiyyid Hamid Sr Secondary School (Boys), Aligarh Muslim University recently
organised a debate competition on the topic of ‘Digital India: Need of the Hour’,
in which a large number of students participated to put forth their view points
on the ongoing digitalisation campaign in country.
On
the occasion, Major S M Mustafa (Veteran), Principal, Saiyyid Hamid Sr
Secondary School (Boys) said that debates like these and other such programmes
are to encourage and appreciate the Ministry of Human Resource Development
(MHRD) Policy regarding promotion of digital economy in educational
institutions, particularly among youth.
Major
Mustafa urged students to understand various aspect of Digital India campaign
and come out with positive opinions. He has also constituted a team of teachers
and students to visit different Aligarh based schools for the MHRD policy regarding
digital economy in educational institutions.
Presiding
over the debate, Mr Habib Ahmad, Coordinator of the programme appreciated and
acknowledged the performance of the participants. He pointed out that the
transformation of Indian economy into electronically empowered and digital
economy is need of the hour.
Mr
Ghufran Ahmad and Dr Faiz Zaidi were judges of the competition while teachers
Mr Ashhad Jamal Nadvi, Mr Mohd Mujahid and Mr Sabahuddin were also present on
the occasion.
Nishant
Bhardwaj of Class XII bagged the first prize, Abdullah Kazmi of Class XII and
Mohammad Faraz of Class XI got second and third prizes respectively. Sudhanshu Shekhar
Jha of Class XI received the consolation prize.
School
students Shoeb Hashmi and Atif Jawed conducted the programme and proposed the
vote of thanks respectively.
Prof Mahmood
appointed as Chairperson, Dept of West Asian Studies and North African Studies
Aligarh,
January 6: Professor Fazal Mahmood has been appointed as
Chairperson, Department of West Asian Studies and North African Studies. Prof
Mahmood will remain the Chairperson till the date of his superannuation, which
is till 19.4.2019.
Faculty of Theology
organises National Seminar on ‘Muslim Personal Law and Constitution of India’
Aligarh, January 6: The
Faculty of Theology, Aligarh Muslim University organised a National
Seminar on ‘Muslim Personal Law and Constitution of India’.
Presiding
over the Inaugural Function of the Seminar, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General
Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) said that since India is a secular country, where
people follow various faiths and personal laws. “Therefore, following a personal
law of a particular religion or the common civil law in certain matters like
marriages and divorces is entirely personal to any citizen,” said the Vice
Chancellor.
He
added that India does not force upon constitutional laws over personal laws.
General Shah further said that education can empower any down trodden community
belonging to any religious faith, geographical location, caste and creed.
Maulana
Shaukat Ali Qasmi from Deoband, who attended the Seminar as the key-speaker
pointed out that India is secular democracy and a Common-Civil-Code is against
the ethos of the country.
He
urged people, who are demanding Common-Civil-Code to do their research on Islam
and the Holy Quran. “If Muslim Personal Law is modified, it will divert Muslims
from the principles of Islam,” said Maulana Qasmi.
The
Chief Guest, Professor Shamim A Ansari, Dean, Faculty of Social Science urged
Muslims to consider views of the Ulema (Islamic scholars) in terms religious
duties and solutions to problems related to Muslim marriages, divorces and
property distribution in Muslim families among other issues. He added that the
solutions to these problems have been explained in religious texts.
Professor
Hafiz M Iliyas Khan, Chairperson, Department of Psychology pointed said that
Indian Constitution guarantees freedom to follow any religion. He added that
the Citizens of India from various religious backgrounds have full faith in the
Indian Constitution, which is enough to safeguard various personal laws.
The
Director of the Seminar, Professor Abdul Khalique, Dean, Faculty of Theology
said that all communities want to live in peace and harmony, while safe
guarding their personal laws, rituals and practices. He added that AMU is a
platform, from where secular voices and opinions against possible modifications
in personal laws will reach the nation.
Professor
Towqueer Alam, Chairman, Department of Sunni Theology, who is also the
Coordinator of the Seminar said that it is imperative that people around the
world understand the principles of Islam and the religious law derived from the
Holy Quran to avoid misunderstandings.
Professor
S Ali Mohammad Naqvi, Chairman, Department of Shia Theology said that the main
issues concerning Muslims today are of education, health, political participation
and social upliftment. “However, Muslims are often seen entangled in
non-issues, which never benefit the community,” observed Prof Naqvi.
Mr
Nafis Ahmad conducted the programme, while Prof Naqvi proposed the vote of
thanks.
Er Jabbar joins as
Workshop Superintendent, Dept of Mechanical Engineering
Aligarh, January 6: Er Abdul
Jabbar recently took over the charge of Workshop Superintendent, Department of
Mechanical Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh
Muslim University. Er Jabbar did his B Tech in Mechanical Engineering from AMU
in 1996 and later worked with the NSIC as a Deputy Manager.
Interdisciplinary Dept of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications host book
releases
Aligarh, January 6: The Interdisciplinary Department of Remote Sensing and GIS
Applications, Faculty of Science, Aligarh Muslim University recently hosted
releasing ceremony of two books authored by Dr Wasi Ahmad Zaidi. The books with
titles of ‘Remote sensing and Geographical Information System’ and ‘Ground
Water’ were released in the presence of Professor Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary,
Registrar, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, Haryana and Professor Abdul
Munir, Dean, Faculty of Science, AMU. These books have been released by APH
Publications, New Delhi.
Dr Zaidi’s books contain detailed study of ground water management in
parts of national capital region, New Delhi and the use of remote sensing and
GIS technology in water management.
During an interaction on the book content, Professor Bhagwan Singh
Chaudhary said that these books help to highlight the concept of theoretical
and practical aspects of geological field work in earth sciences with a special
usefulness for students and research scholars.
Prof Nizamuddin, Dr Rashid Afridi, Dr Mukthar Ahmad, Dr S M A Rizvi, Dr
Syed Kausar Shamim and Dr Ziu ur Rahman Ansari were also present on the
occasion.
Dept of Linguistics to
start International Conference
Aligarh, January 6: The
Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with the
Indian Council for Social Science Research will start a three-day International
Conference on ‘Mediatization, Culturalization and Language Alteration’ from
January 5, 2017.
Professor Ali R Fatihi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics will be
actively involved in the Conference, which will have Dr M J Warsi as the
Organising Secretary.

releases AMU Calendar and Diary for the year 2017
Aligarh, January 6: The
Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah
(Veteran) today released the University Calendar and the University Diary for
the year 2017. The Calendar carrying twelve leaves with historical information
about AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad khan and the historical evolution of Aligarh
Muslim University is dedicated to the bi-centenary celebrations of Sir Syed’s
birth anniversary.
The
Calendar also has rare and relevant pictures of Aligarh movement and various
quotes on monthly basis by eminent historians.
On the occasion, AMU
Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali with Prof A R Kidwai, Prof S M Javed
Akhtar, Prof Yusuf uz Zaman Khan, Prof Shafey Kidwai, Prof F S Sheerani, Dr
Faiza Abbasi, Dr Badr Jahan, Dr Ziaur Rehman, Dr M Sajjad and AMU PRO, Mr Omar
Saleem Peerzada were also present.
