Dept of Amraze Jild wa Zorawia organises International Symposium
Aligarh, January 12: The Department of Amraze Jild wa Zorawia, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with the Foundation for Evidence-based Development in India (FEDI) today organised an International Symposium on ‘Diversification of Health Research: An Evidence-based Approach.’
Addressing the Outcome Session of the Symposium, the Chief Guest, AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) said that this Symposium broadens the scope of health research through transportation of multidisciplinary theories and practices to the context of health research.
He pointed out that a fundamental assumption Evidence-based-Medicine (EBM) is that the doctors, whose practice is based on an understanding of evidence from applied health care research will provide superior patient care compared with practitioners, who rely on understanding of basic mechanisms and their own clinical experience.
Urging doctors to also become researchers, Brigadier Ali said that the medicine practitioners should always keep on gaining modern knowledge. He further urged Unani Medicine doctors to visit the bio-chemistry and chemistry labs of the university to observe changes and innovations in modern sciences.
“Scientists associated with the field of bio-chemistry are bringing in a silent revolution, which needs to be observed by Unani Medicine doctors and doctors of other streams of medicine,” said the Pro Vice Chancellor. He also said that Unani Medicine is unique in a way that it tends to find the root of the disease to cure a patient.      
Professor Shagufta Aleem, Chairperson, Organising Committee said that the Unani Medicine is a well established system, which has been serving the nation and it’s people from all walks of life. “However, today the international forums require medicine systems to have Evidence-based-Approaches and diversification of health perspective and research,” said Prof Aleem adding that despite of all treasures and rich resources, the Unani Medicine is lagging behind Evidence-based-Research.
She added that FEDI has brought this opportunity to the doors of Faculty of Unani Medicine and the Department of Amraze Jild wa Zorawia has managed materialize things in a short span.   
Professor M M Wamiq Amin, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine stated that the Faculty is regularly organising seminars, symposiums, conferences and workshops of national and international levels for upgrading the knowledge of Faculty members, students and scholars.
Dr Saud Ali Khan, Principal, A K Tibbiya College, AMU said that symposiums like these help to upgrade the knowledge base of students and faculty members while providing a platform to share knowledge, skills and experiences with students, scholars and teachers from various parts of the country and abroad.
Dr Zamir Ahmad, Organising Secretary of the Symposium said that the Department of Amraze Jild wa Zorawia shall pave way to broaden considerations for research problems in Unani Medicine and other disciplines of health research.
Dr D S Faruquie, E.D, OXEVIN, Oxford spoke on the Foundation for Evidence-based-Development in India. He also applauded the research work taking place in AMU by saying that this research will provide a strong data for further researches.
Meanwhile, the Pro Vice Chancellor also released a book, translated from Arabic to Urdu by Dr Akram Laiq. The book, ‘Aisi Shifa jo Ujrat Se Hasil Hojaye’ is a translation of a 1000-year-old Arabic book on Unani Medicine.
Dr Mohd Anas conducted the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr R C Chaudhary, Ms Amy Putman, Ms Jessica Singh and Ms M Mathur also participated in the Symposium.
Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal, J N Medical College; Professor S M Jawed Akhtar, Finance Officer, AMU; Professor M Mohsin Khan, Proctor AMU; Professor Naim Ahmad Khan; Professor Anis Ismail and Dr Diwan Israr Khan also graced the occasion.





AMU Team wins North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival Quiz Championship

Aligarh, January 12: The Aligarh Muslim University team comprising of Md Aasif Akhlaque, Asif Khan and Rajnish Jha, which recently participated in the 32nd North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival, Kanpur has won the Quiz Championship of the Festival.

AMU team participated with 30 universities and colleges teams from different parts of North-India. The victorious AMU team will now participate in the National Youth Festival in Kolhapur as one of the favourites to win the Quiz Competition.  

The AMU team members were selected from the University Quiz Forum held every week in which 50 students test their quiz abilities and skills against each other.
 

Dept of Psychology, AMU Condoles the sad demise of Dr. Kidwai.

Aligarh, January 13: A condolence meeting to mourn the sad demise of Former AMU Faculty Member and Rajya Sabha MP, Dr Muhammad Hashim Kidwai, was today held at Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University.The meeting was presided by Professor Shamim A Ansari, Dean , Fauculty of Social Science.


While paying the tribute to the departed soul, Professor Hafiz Mohammad Ilyas, Chairman Department of Psychology, AMU said that Dr Kidwai was Born in 1921 in Lucknow, He completed his studies with a PhD degree in Political Science from Aligarh Muslim University and became a lecturer in AMU in 1948. He, however, left Aligarh to serve the nation as an elected member of Rajya Sabha in 1984.

Professor Ilyas added that during his stay in Aligarh, Dr. Kidwai served the University in various capacities including Proctor, Provost and President of the AMU Staff Association. He also served as the Keeper of the Duty Society and relentlessly worked for the restoration of the minority character of the UniversityProfessor Ilyas appealed to recite Quran for the forgiveness of departed soul. He also read out the condolence resolution.

Teachers, Research Scholars and staff members of the department were also present.
