General Shah releases book edited by Professor M Anis and Dr Naseem Ahmad

Aligarh, January 10: Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) recently released a book, titled ‘Plant Tissue Culture: Propagation, Conservation and Crop Improvement’ edited by Professor M Anis and Dr Naseem Ahmad. The book has been published by internationally known, Springer Publications.

This book has 26 chapters and five different sections with detailed information on varied topics from vitro technology to plant conservation. The contributions in the book have come from various International laboratories.

The documented protocols in the book highlight the role of Plant Tissue Culture in the commercial propagation, genetic engineering, crop improvement and conservation of various fruit, ornamental, spice, forestry and medicinal plant species.      

The editors of the book are well known scientists, academics and researchers in their respective fields. While, Prof Anis has 31-years of teaching and research experience in Biotechnology and Cytogenetics; Dr Ahmad is associated with SERB-DST, New Delhi as Young Scientist with seven-years of post-doctoral experience in Morphogenesis and Plant Tissue Culture.  

Prof Anis has published over 185 research and review articles in Journals of International repute. He is recipient of National (1992) and Overseas (1994) Biotechnology Associateship of DBT, Government of India. He has been INSA Visiting Scientist to Frankfurt University (1998) and Institute of Genetics and Plant Biotechnology, Nitra (2006), Slovak Republic. Prof Anis has also been conferred with the Eminent Scientist Award (2007) by National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi; Vigyan Ratan Samman (2010) of Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh; Professor P Maheshwari Medal (2013) and Mid-Career award of UGC (2015) for his significant contribution in Medicinal Plant Biotechnology. He has also been Program Coordinator of several major projects like DST-FIST (I and II), UGC-DRS (I and II) and DBT-HRD. 

Dr Ahmad has published about 37 research papers in Journals of International repute. He has also contributed five book chapters and 43 abstracts in various conferences. He is a member in the Editorial Board of various journals, holds Life Membership of many Scientific Societies and is a Fellow of Indian Botanical Society (FBS). Dr Ahmad is recipient of ‘National Scholarship’ of Slovak Republic (2013); Yuva Vaigiyanik Samman (2009), CST, Uttar Pradesh; Young Scientist (2010) NESA, New Delhi; Rashtriya Gaurav Award (2015), India International Friendship Society, New Delhi and Young Scientist of the year (2015), International Foundation for Environment and Ecology (IFEE), Kolkata.  He has also received Post Graduate Merit Scholarship in MSc and Best Oral presentation award at BBAU (Central University), Lucknow. He has also availed Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) of CSIR, New Delhi.




 
Perfect Relations hires AMU student

Aligarh, January 10: Taking job placements of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to newer levels, the University’s Training and Placement Office (General) has roped in India’s leading Public Relations firm, ‘Perfect Relations’ to hire AMU passouts as recently Mr Nitin Gupta, MA Mass Communications (Final-year) has been hired by the firm.

The TPO (General), Mr Saad Hameed has pointed out that Perfect Relations, which is a part of one of the world’s largest media group, Dentsu Aegis Network and other leading firms, will soon hire more students from AMU. 

“Working in Dentsu Aegis network and Perfect Relations is the dream job destination for any Public Relations aspirant,” said Mr Gupta.

On the occasion, the Perfect Relations Team, which hired Mr Gupta has appreciated the talented AMU students. They have added that it is an honour for them to have employees coming out AMU, which is one of the best universities in India.   

Meanwhile, Mr Hameed confirmed that Viacom 18 Network, a leader in TV and Films is conducting recruitment process of Mass Communication students from AMU. He further confirmed that a leading Hindi news channel is also hiring interns from AMU.
 



AMU starts three-week training program in Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Natural Resource Management

Aligarh, January 10: A three-week training program in Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Natural Resource Management has been inaugurated in UGC-HRDC, Aligarh Muslim University. The program is funded by NRDMS division of Department of Science and Technology (DST).

About 40 scholars from different universities, which includes university teachers, post-doctoral scholars and research scholars from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are participating in the programme. 

The Chief Guest, Prof R B Singh from the prestigious Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University was pleased with this initiative at AMU. He said that this kind of Capacity Building training programme is the hallmark of a rich university culture.

Prof Singh further said that this DST sponsored program has great relevance as global scientific communities are preparing for important initiatives on Health, well-being and disaster reduction in changing urban environment.

While welcoming the guests and participants, Professor A R Kidwai, Director, UGC-HRDC urged scholars to imbibe rich cultural and academic values in their academics. He shared his experience of research in developed countries and advised scholars to produce quality research using new techniques and tools.

Prof Shahab Fazal, Coordinator of programme, appraised the audience about the program and explained the relevance of geographical space in modern world. He stressed on the need to adopt the techniques of remote sensing and GIS for planning and policy researches. 

During the vote of thanks, Dr Faiza Abbasi, Assistant Director, UGC-HRDC urged the participants to take maximum benefits out of the training program.




Bridge Course for Graduates of Deeni Madaris, AMU organises Essay Writing Competition

Aligarh, January 10: The Bridge Course for Graduates of Deeni Madaris, Aligarh Muslim University under the aegis of Centre for Promotion of Educational and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India (CEPECAMI) recently organised, Essay Writing Competition on the topic of ‘Bridge Course mein mera Ilmi Safar’ (My Educational Journey at Bridge Course).

The objective behind organising this competition was to promote writing abilities in students associated with AMU’s Bridge Course. 

Mohd Tameem Qasmi and Sharafat Hussain Nadvi jointly bagged the first prize with a cash prize of Re 40, 000 in the competition, while Azhar Hussain and Mohd Ismail were placed second with a cash prize of Rs 20, 000. Ruqaiyya Fatima and Umair Khan won the third place with a cash prize of Rs 10, 000. Meanwhile, five consolation prizes were shared by Farhana Parveen, Naim Ahmad, Mohd Arshad, Nihal Ahmad and Atiqur Rahman.
