AMU organizes a number of programmes on Sir Syed’s
Bicentenary
ALIGARH April 18: The
Bicentenary Celebrations at the Aligarh Muslim University, marking the 200th
birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, have received a big fillip with a
number of programmes on anvil, while a score of programmes have already been
organized by different departments of study, halls of residence and offices.
A Bicentenary commemorative volume of essays, “Sir Syed
Ahmad Khan, Muslim Renaissance Man of India”, edited by Prof. Abdur Raheem
Kidwai, Director, UGC Human Resource Development Centre and Coordinator of the
Bicentenary Celebrations Committee has been released on October 17 last. The
commemorative volume, which features a total of 19 articles by noted scholars
and researchers including David Lelyveld, Barbara Metcalf, Christian W. Troll,
Charles Ramsey, Hafeez Malik, Gordon Campbell, Geoffrey Nash and Robert
Ivermee, has been published by Viva Books, New Delhi with a foreword
contributed by Prof. F.A. Nizami, Director, Oxford Islamic Centre.
Another book of Prof. Shafey Kidwai, titled
“Sawanah-e-Sir Syd: Ek Bazdeed” was released recently while Dr. Rahat Abrar’s
book “Sir Syed Aur Un Ke Muasreen” was released by the AMU Vice Chancellor at a
commemorative programme.
The Centre for Interfaith Studies has also planned to
bring out several books on Sir Syed and his tryst with different faiths during
Aligarh Movement.
Meanwhile, the popular Urdu monthly, Jahan-e-Kutub, New
Delhi, edited by Mohd Naseer Khan and Farooq Argali, has published a special
number on Sir Syed, comprising 1176 pages, while the Tahzibul Akhlaq, an Urdu journal
started by Sir Syed and the Fikr-o-Nazar, an Urdu quarterly, both published
from the Aligarh Muslim University, have brought out special Sir Syed numbers
to highlight the features and relevance of his educational vision and mission.
Prof. A R Kidwai, Coordinator of the Bicentenary
Celebrations Committee, said that a series of lectures on the mission and
thought of Sir Syed has been initiated at Halls of residence in AMU, local
educational institutions in Aligarh and in the cities and towns associated with
the great social reformer.
He said that a National Seminar on Sir Syed has been
organized by the Urdu Academy of AMU in collaboration with National Council for
Promotion of UrduLanguage and HRD Ministry, while another important National
Seminar was organized on Sir Syed in collaboration with Sahitya Academy, New
Delhi, under the stewardship of Prof M. Shafey Kidwai, Department of Mass
Communication, AMU. A National Seminar on Sir Syed has also been organized by
Director, Sir Syed Academy, AMU.
Prof. Kidwai said that the Public Relations Officer
(PRO), Mr Omar S Peerzada and his team has initiated a lecture series to mark
the historic celebrations beginning with a lecture on Gender Equality by Mr
Gautam Bhattacharyya, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi, which was held at the Women’s College.
The AMU PRO ad his team also invited noted
journalist and writer Mr. Saeed Naqvi to deliver a lecture on “Fair is Foul and
Foul is Fair” on April 4, 2017 at the Cultural Hall, Maulana Azad Library. Meanwhile,
another lecture oragnised by AMU PRO and his team by noted journalist and
commentator Mr. Pankaj Pachauri is scheduled for April 22 next.
Prof. Kidwai pointed out that several art exhibitions
have also been organized under the bicentenary celebrations. The Embassy of the
Republic of Indonesia, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Public Relations
Office, Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery and Department of Fine Arts, organized an
exhibition of ‘Indonesian Folk Art Batik’ as part of the Sir Syed Bicentenary
celebrations.
A highlight of the Bicentenary
Celebrations has also been a project work by students, in which an interactive
session between students and teachers of various faculties on the topic of,
‘Vision of Sir syed towards educational excellence and need to re visit his
ideas’ took place. The programme also had deliberations on how to synchronize
the energy of admin, teachers and students to elevate University and create a
blitz to change the perception about AMU.
An exhibition on "Sir Syed Ahmad Khan-Glimpses of
the M.A.O. College and AMU" was held at Moinuddin Ahmad Arts Gallery while
two other exhibitions were organizedat Ibne Sina Academy and the Maulana Azad
Library.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellorof Aligarh Muslim
University Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah has written a letter to AMU Alumni
Associations, Muslim educational institutions and NGOs for setting up quality
schools across the country.
The Vice Chancellor has also written a letter
to the Heads of Departments of Urdu, Arabic and Persian across the country
requesting them to organize Bicentenary programme in their respective
institutions.
The Al-Barkaat Group of Institutions is opening schools
in Khurja and Surat as part of commemorative initiatives under the Sir Syed
Bicentenary celebrations.

TPO (University
Polytechnic) organises Workshop and Flying Show
Aligarh, April 18: The
Training and Placement Office (TPO), University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim
University has conducted a ‘One Day Workshop’ on ‘Design and Fabrication of
Model Aeronautics as Future Aspect of Innovations in Aviation’. After the
Workshop, TPO (University Polytechnic) with Haril Technoways Pvt Ltd also
conducted a ‘Flying Show’.
Mr Shivan Shukhla,
Integral University, Lucknow; Er Aswani Singh, CEO, New Addition UAV Solution Pvt
Ltd; Er Syed Zeeshan Ahmad, Manager, Haril Technoways Pvt Ltd; Er Mohd Mohsin
Khan, Associate Professor, MES, University Polytechnic, AMU; Professor Iqbal
Ali and Er Mohd GUlam Waris Khan spoke on topics like basic Aero Modeling, R C
Aircraft UAV and Drones and Paramotor Ultralight Aircraft. A video session on
‘demo model flying’ was also done during the workshop.
While
the workshop took place at the Assembly Hall, University Polytechnic; the
‘Flying Show’ was done at the University’s Athletics Ground.

TPO (General) with
Dept of Chemical Engineering organises Counselling Workshop for scholars
Aligarh, April 18: In the
first of its kind in the Aligarh Muslim University, the Training and Placement
Office (General) in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering
organised a Counselling Workshop for research scholars with the objective to sensitize
scholars on educational and job opportunities in India and abroad.
On the occasion, Mr
Saad Hameed, Training and Placement Officer (General) pointed out that there is
a misconception that scholars are already on the track without the need of any
further guidance. He added that this workshop has been designed to provide the
necessary guidance and motivation to research scholars for their career moves.
Mr Hameed also spoke
on the ways to develop personalities and managing day-to-day stress and study
pressures for maintaining the necessary work rhythm.
Meanwhile, Nasar Ata,
Trainer from the British Council spoke on admissions in foreign universities,
scholarships and criterion. He also deliberated in details on the various
scholarships and university programmes available in the United Kingdom and
other European and American universities.
The organisers of
the workshop have confirmed that a Counselling Group for research scholars
shall be formed to provide long term and regular career guidance.
Dr
Sadaf Zaidi, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering welcomed
the Guests while Mr Sayed Mohammed Adnan hosted the programme.

AMUSU to organise Mega Job Expo “RECRUFEST 3.0”
Aligarh, April 18: Aligarh
Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU) will organise the third edition of
Mega Job Expo “RECRUFEST 3.0” in Aligarh Muslim University on April 22 and 23
at the Cultural Education Centre (CEC) and the Union Hall.
Graduates, post-graduates and scholars from various
disciplines and courses from the University will actively take part in the Mega
Job Expo. Meanwhile, the registration for participation in the Expo has been
going as since April 4, 2017.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Saad Hameed, Training and
Placement Officer (General) stated that this event is organised entirely by the
Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU) in general and the student
fraternity in particular. “Students associated with the organising committee
have been working day and night to make this event successful,” said Mr Hameed.
Mr Nabeel Usmani, Honorary Secretary, AMUSU said that
the objective of the programme is to give favourable juncture and a platform to
students for showcasing professional talents in the best ways. He added that
the organising committee is focussed on bringing the most reputed companies
along with guaranteeing the maximum number of recruitments.
Meanwhile,
Barclays, Tata Chemicals, British Airways, IBM Concentrix, American Express,
HCL, Genpact, HDFC Bank, Wipro, IBM Concentrix and many other companies have
already given nod to participate in the Expo. The organisers have said that
more than 50 companies will be a part of the event.

Symposium
held on Sir Syed in Delhi
ALIGARH
April 18: The Idea
Communications and Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Hind organised a Symposium on Sir Syed
to mark the Bicentenary Celebrations of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan at Urdu Ghar,
Delhi. The Chairman of the bicentenary celebrations committee, Prof A R Kidwai
presided over the symposium.
On this
occasion, Dr Rahat Abrar, Director, Urdu Academy at AMU was felicitated for
making significant contribution for promotion of Sir Syed's vision and mission.
Mr Arif Mohd
Khan, Former Union Minister, Mr S M Khan, Director General and Registrar
Newspapers of India (RNI), Mr V K Barnwal, noted Gandhian scholar, Padma Shri
Prof S R Kidwai, President Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Hind, Prof Farooq, former
Chairman, Department of Orthopaedics, AIIMS, Dr Abdullah Abdullah from USA
expressed their views on the occasion and highlighted the contributions of Sir
Syed Ahmad khan in propagating modern education and Hindu-Muslim unity.

A large
number of AMU alumni were present on the occasion.
Ms Shahla

AMU
students and teachers to reach Jammu and Kashmir on Sadbhavna tour
Aligarh,
April 18: As a part of Sadbhavna programme, at least
26 students from different faculties in Aligarh Muslim University with a group
of four teachers have today left for the Kishtawar District of Jammu and
Kashmir for a goodwill programme organised by the Rashtriya Rifles with an aim
to promote people to people interaction between Jammu and Kashmir and other
parts of India. The touring AMU students and teachers will stay in Kishtawar
and its adjoining areas for one-week.
While
flagging off the tour, Aligarh Muslim University Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier
S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) said that this is a reverse of the usual Sadbhavna
programmes, in which people from Kashmir accompanied by the Army usually travel
to different parts of India. “However today, a group of students and teachers
from outside Kashmir will reach Kishtawar region on a Sadbhavna tour,” said
Brigadier Ali.
While
urging AMU students to represent the University in the best possible ways; the
Pro Vice Chancellor said that upon reaching Kishtawar, AMU students will have
an added responsibility of representing their Alma Mater and the student’s
community in the best possible ways to the people of Kishtawar, Doda and
Baderwah regions.
He
also assured that the Army officers will host AMU students in the best ways.
“On reaching Jammu, AMU students and teachers will be received by Army Officers
and the AMU delegation will witness the excellent hospitality, which the Army
has to offer,” said Brigadier Ali urging students to reach in time as the Army
officers are known for their punctuality in time.
The
teachers in-charge of this one-week tour are Major Mohd Israil (Polytechnic),
Dr Farooq Ahmad Dar (Unani Medicine), Er Mohd Mohsin (Polytcehnic) and Mr Najaf
Ali Khan (Senior Secondary School, Boys).
Mrs
Rizwana Ali, Professor Fareed Mehdi and AMU Public Relations Officer, Mr Omar S
Peerzada was also present on the occasion.

Murshidabad Centre concludes six-month computer typing,
internet and MS Office course
Aligarh, April 18: The valedictory
function of RAYSE AMU Murshidabad Academy’s six-month computer typing, internet
and MS Office course was recently held in AMU Murshidabad Centre. Mr T
Balasubramaniun (IAS), SDO, Jangipur attended the function as the chief guest,
while Dr Badaruddoza, Director, Murshidabad presided over the function.
During
the programme, Mr Balasubramaniun spoke about the importance of mastering
computer skills. He urged the students to start taking their studies seriously
as competition is getting tougher day-by-day. He also congratulated the
administration of the Centre for organizing outreach programs for the benefit
of general masses.
Meanwhile,
in the presidential address, Dr Badaruddoza congratulated the students for
their achievement. He added that by sheer hard work, many students of this
academy have started typing in the range of 35-40 words per minute.
Dr
Badaruddoza further said that computer skills, which the students have learnt
in the past six-months will increase their chances of employability and help
them throughout their careers.
While
giving an introduction of the course; Dr Syed Atif Jilani, Course-Coordinator,
informed that the Centre has decided to arrange English speaking classes and computer
typing classes for all the students of the current batch.
Mr
Shahid Latif, representative of RAYSE Academy informed that the Academy is
currently running such courses in Delhi and Kolkata. Mr Sabir Ahamed, member of
SNAP Academy said that the world is full of opportunities in different fields
and students should try to grab them as per their interests in order to achieve
success.
Dr
Syed Atif Jilani conducted the programme, while Mr Asraful Islam Ansari
proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Darakshan Nigar welcomed the guests.

Dr Nasheed conferred 12th Shah Waliullah
Award
Aligarh, April 17: Dr Nasheed Imtiyaz, Assistant Professor, Department
of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University has been conferred the 12th
Shah Waliullah Award (Junior Category) on Media, Society and Indian Muslim by
the Institute of Objective Studies, New Delhi in a special program.
The program was presided over
by Ex Chief Justice AM Ahmadi who was also amongst the members of the selection
board involved in the selection of awardees.
