Bibi Fatima Hall
concludes ‘Exult ‘17’
Aligarh, April 19: The
residents, wardens and the provost of the Bibi Fatima Hall recently concluded
the Annual Hall Dinner and Prize Distribution, ‘Exult ‘17’ held at the Hall
premises. AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) attended the
function as the Chief Guest, while his wife Mrs Rizwana Ali was the Guest of
Honour. Professor M M Sufiyan Beg also attended the function as the Guest of
Honour.
On the occasion,
Brigadier Ali appreciated the efforts of organisers for bringing out a
successful event. “On visiting, one can see that the Hall is well maintained
with all the necessary steps taken for cleanliness,” said the Pro Vice
Chancellor adding that assets will always be added in the hall for better
facilities to the residents.
While felicitating
members of the Hall Committee, Prof M M Sufiyan Beg said that daughters are the
best gifts of God, which any family can receive. He added that it is wonderful
to see what our daughters (residents of the Hall) are capable of doing. “I wish
all the girl students the best for academic and future lives,” said Prof Beg.
The Chief Guest and
the Guests of Honour were later also felicitated during the programme.
Headed by the Hall Provost, Dr Shahnaz Hasan, the events for the day started with a Welcome address by Ms Rafeeda Siddiqui, Senior Hall. She addressed the gathering notifying the upcoming Hall Magazine and highlighting the eventful year at Bibi Fatima Hall. Meanwhile, Ms Musfera Javed, Editor of Hall Magazine conducted the release of the Hall Magazine.
The Joint Senior
Hall, Ms Samia Khan presented the Annual Hall report, marking the developments
and various activities held in the hostels and the achievements of various
residents.
In the distribution
of special prizes, Ms Sameena Firdous was awarded the Miss Bibi Fatima Hall, Ms
Urfa Raes Ansari was awarded Miss Exult while Ms Akanksha Gupta bagged the Ms Miss
Evening Award.
Ms
Gunjan Jain, Senior Cultural Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.
JNMC faculties
receive awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Aligarh, April 19: Dr Latif
Zafar Jilani, Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery,
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University recently
received the second best paper award during the Dr Robert Bauze Gold Medal
session held at the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA) Trauma and
Infection Meeting at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Dr Jilani’s paper
was on his study on the outcome of rail fixator system in the management of
complex nonunion of long bones. During the Meeting in Malaysia, Dr Jilani’s
paper was one of the six papers selected for the gold medal session.
His paper
illustrates that complex nonunions are among the most difficult problems in
orthopaedic clinical practice. The paper further throws light on how these
cases are usually associated with bone gap, shortening and infection at the
fracture site. Dr Jilani, in his paper proves that this complicated problem can
be managed by rail fixator system with excellent outcomes.
The paper was
presented by Dr Mohd Faizan, Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedic
Surgery on his behalf, as Dr Jilani couldn't attend the conference due to unavoidable
family reasons.
Dr Faizan also
presented two other research papers and two posters in the conference and he
was also awarded for his research paper during the Meeting. Dr Faizan recieved
a cash prize of US $ 200 along with the award.
In his paper on
relevance of timing of operation on infection rate in open fractures, he
concluded that there was no increase in infection rates when surgery was
performed up to 24 hours after injury and surgery can be delayed up to 24 hours
if optimal operating environment is not available.
Meanwhile, Dr Zulfiqar,
who is also associated with JNMC presented a paper on osteosynthesis in fracture
neck of femur in patients between 60-75 years of age.
Professor Mazhar
Abbas, Chairperson, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, has congratulated the
faculty members on their achievements.
AMU Engineering
College Teams win top prizes in IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee
Aligarh, April 19: Teams of
B Tech (Civil Engineering) students associated with Aligarh Muslim University’s
Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology have bagged first prizes in
the recently concluded Utkraanti-17 and Cognizance-17 held at IIT Delhi and
Roorkee. Utkraanti-17, which was organised by M/s. Wingfotech Private Limited,
New Delhi in association with Entrepreneurship Development Cell, IIT, Delhi had
an online civil engineering quiz championship; while Cognizance-17 hosted a
paper presentation competition.
The

Meanwhile,
Professor Hasan Irtaza, Training and Placement Officer, Zakir Husain College of
Engineering and Technology has congratulated the winning teams. He said that the
success of these students is a testimony to their hard work, reputation of the
institute, dedication and guidance offered by the faculty members.
Over 60 patients
attend camp at Centre of Cardiology
Aligarh, April 19: Over 60
patients have so far reported for pacemaker interrogation during the on-going
Pacemaker Camp at the Centre of Cardiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College
(JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University in which settings of pacemaker parameters
were done according to the necessities of the patients. This camp is organised
every six months at the Centre of Cardiology.
During
the camp, Professor Asif Hasan, Director, Centre of Cardiology highlighted the
state of art facilities available in the Centre of Cardiology including variety
of interventions like coronary angioplasty, pacing devices and ballooning in
cases of valvular heart disease. He spoke on how these facilities are helping
patients, for whom it is difficult to afford expensive hospitals.
AMU students and Public Relations office organise
teacher-students interactive session
Aligarh, April 19: Students of Aligarh
Muslim University (AMU) under the aegis of the University’s Public Relations
Office as a project work recently organised an interactive
session between students and teachers of various faculties on the topic of
‘Vision of Sir Syed towards educational excellence and need to re-visit his
ideas’.
During the session, Professor M M Sufiyan
Beg, Principal, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, AMU pointed out that
Sir Syed’s vision on education was to create masses of modern scientific temper
and his mission was not limited to a particular community.
He added that Sir Syed’s mission of
education carried with it a message of social harmony and it should be
revisited in the contemporary times for the necessary upliftment of
society.
Professor N A K Durrani, Former Dean,
Faculty of Social Sciences emphasised that it is important to understand that a
student should enter a educational institute to learn and depart to serve and
establish. He added that it is the need of the hour to have as many centres of
excellence throughout the country on the ideals of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
Dr M Mohibul Haque, Associate Professor with
the Department of Political Science said that history of social and educational
reforms in Indian sub-continent cannot be completed without Sir Syed Ahmad
Khan. He added that Sir Syed is one of the great thinkers, philosophers and
revolutionaries who dedicated his life for the betterment of society. He
stressed that it is imperative to revisit Sir Syed’s social, political and
educational thoughts in today’s world.
While
answering a query, Dr Shariq Aqeel, Chief Medical Officer of the University Health
Service said if there is a communication gap in between teachers and students
during the classroom sessions and beyond; it is the responsibility of the
teacher and students equally to break the jinx in order to have better
classroom teaching and teacher-student relations.
Dr
Syed Khurram Nisar, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education spoke
about updating of syllabus and making course content more modern. He further
spoke on making public universities more affordable to the larger sections of
societies. However, he emphasised that there is a need to make education system
more competitive.
Professor
Romana N Siddiqui, Professor Afrina Rizvi, Dr Qurrat ul Ain Ali, Dr Shyna Saif
and Mr Mohd Abu Saleh also participated in the interactive session.
In
the students section of the panel, Mr Faizul Hasan, AMUSU President; Mr Abul
Farah Shazli; Ms Aiman Fatima; Mr Aiman Wasi; Mr Gulrez and Mr Fauzan Arshad
were present.
While
delivering the vote of thanks, AMU Public Relations Officer, Mr Omar S Peerzada
applauded the efforts of students in bringing out a successful dialogue in
between students and teachers. He added that these efforts are the need of hour
to spread the positivity of AMU in the mainstream to build the right
perceptions.
Dr
Huma Parveen was the moderator of the programme, while Ms Kalpana Singh was the
