AMUSU soon to set record with 50, 000 tree sapling
plantations with ‘One Person, One Tree’ drive
Aligarh, April 25: As a part of the
‘Earth Day’ observations, the Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU)
is set to create a record of planting 50, 000 tree saplings in the lawns of
various Faculties, departments, schools, offices and halls of residences associated
with the University. Once it reaches the target, AMUSU’s plantation drive, ‘One
Person, One Tree’ will be biggest tree plantation drive carried out by an
educational institution in India.

Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran), who inaugurated the
plantation drive, today morning around 8:00 am at the Maulana Azad Library
lawns congratulated AMUSU for the initiative. On the occasion, he said that the
benefits of trees are unlimited as they are the strongest shield against the harms
of air pollution, while strengthening the soil and resisting natural calamities
and lessening the heat of temperature. General Shah inaugurated the plantation
drive with his wife, Mrs Sabiha Seemi Shah.

Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran), who also congratulated
the AMUSU for the plantation drive said that plantation drives are very
important social sensitization projects and it is wonderful to see that such
drive is carried out in AMU at a very large scale.

Public Relations Officer, Mr Omar S Peerzada, who along with the Public
Relations Office Team planted 20 tree saplings in the varsity’s Registrar
Office premises as a part of the plantation drive, said that ‘everyday should
be observed as the Earth Day.’ He quoted the Japanese Nobel Laureate, Prof
Tajaki Kajita, who on his AMU Visit said, ‘AMU is one of the greenest and
cleanest universities, he has ever seen.’ Congratulating the AMUSU for their
efforts, he stated that let us make AMU greener and cleaner.
Meanwhile
various schools associated with AMU also actively participated in the
planataion drive, in partuclarly the AMU ABK High School (Girls) conducted the
plantation programme, in which students planted saplings in the schools
premises. Dr Saba Hasan, School Principal confirmed that the students have
enthusaitically participated in the ‘One Person, One Tree’ campaign.

AMUSU Vice President, Mr Nadeem Ansari; AMUSU Secretary, Mr Nabeel Usmani;
AMUSU Cabinet Member, Mr Vaseel K and other AMUSU Cabinet Members were present
on the occasion. This plantation drive, which has been spearheaded by Mr Vaseel
K is targeted to reach a rare feat of a number of sapling plantations, never
ever attempted by any other academic institution.

Dr Frank F Islam to appear on News X show
Aligarh, April 25: Aligarh Muslim
University (AMU) alumnus, entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, Dr Frank F
Islam will appear on a News X show, ‘Oxford of The East,’ on Saturday, April
29, 2017 from 9: 30 am to 10 am. The show is also scheduled to be shown on
Doordarshan soon. This show will profile AMU and Jamia Millia Islamia.
In
February 2017, Dr Islam inaugurated the newly constructed Frank and Debbie
Islam Management Complex in the AMU Campus, the first phase of the complex has
been constructed at the cost of Rs 20 crore to serve as the Faculty of
Management Studies and Research. The new complex is constructed in an area
sprawling three acres in Sir Syed House Complex in AMU.
United
States based Dr Islam provides targeted financial assistance to civic, educational
and artistic causes and groups. Organizations that have received his support
include: Colorado University, Montgomery Community College, Strathmore Center
for the Performing Arts and the U.S. Institute for Peace.
He
has also authored two books: Working the Pivot Points: To Make America Work
Again (2013) and Renewing the American Dream: A Citizen’s Guide for Restoring
Our Competitive Advantage (2010). He blogs regularly for The Huffington Post
and writes occasional columns for publications such as the International
Business Times and The Economic Times of India.

Gen Shah constitutes Internal Complaints Committee
Aligarh, April 25: The Aligarh Muslim
University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) on the
behalf of the Executive Council and in accordance with the University
regulations has constituted Internal Complaints Committee under Professor
Shaheena Tarannum, Department of English as the Presiding Officer.
Professor
Tarannum has taken the charge from Professor Seema Hakim, J N Medical College.
This Committee, which is to take action against sexual
harassment and for gender sensitization in the AMU Campus also includes
Professor Samena Khan, Department of English; Dr Juhi Gupta, Department of
Gender Studies; Dr Farah Ashhar, CMO, UHO; Mrs Shaista Bedar, Assistant
Librarian; Ms Ghazala Ahmad, NRSC BSW; Ms Nida Khan, MA (Sociology); Ms Marya
Khan, Phd (Sociology) and Ms Sabiha Lari of Ismat Society.

Raleigh Literary Society stages ‘The witches and other
Confusions- A comedy of Terrors’
Aligarh, April 25: The Raleigh Literary
Society, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University recently staged a
play, ‘The witches and other Confusions- A comedy of Terrors’ in the Kennedy Hall
Auditorium.
Department
of English students: Mariyam Ilyas Siddiqui, Shafaque Zehra, Mariam Tariq
Usmani, Sadia Jafri, Sumaiyah Naaz, Salma Javed, Mohd Sajid Ansari, Abraham
Varghese, Mohd Anas, Tabeeda Bint Bashir, Zainab Fatima, Mohd Faraz Zuberi,
Adnan Khan, Mohd Omar Fazal Khan, Varun Verna, Haroon Khan and Rayyan Nemat
portrayed various characters in the play.

the occasion, General Shah said that the Raleigh Literary Society has played a big
role in developing communication skills amongst the students of the university.
“The society has made commendable efforts in encouraging the students to
inhibit their fear of representing themselves in front of a large audience
thereby making them confident,” added General Shah.
Professor
Seemin Hasan, Chairperson, Department of English and Patron of the Raleigh
Literary Society conducted the programme. Teachers-in-charge, Dr Aysha Munira
Rasheed and Dr Vibha Sharma worked tirelessly to mentor the students
participating in the play.
Ms Zakra Saiwa, President, Raleigh Literary Society and
Mr Ayush Gaur hosted the event. Ms Vardha Manzar proposed the vote of thanks.
