Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology observes World Aids Day

Aligarh, December 5: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, J N Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University recently organised a ‘Slogan Writing Competition’ on the occasion of World AIDS Day. The competition took place in the seminar room of the department.

Professor M Ammanullah Khan, Dean, Dean Faculty of Medicine, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest gave useful suggestions on sampling and patient care. 

Guest of Honour, Prof Haris Manzoor khan, Medical Superintendent talked about proper care while collecting and submitting samples to avoid any mishap and medico legal issues.

Prof M Shahid Khan, Dept of Microbiology, who also attended the function as a Guest of Honour talked about the necessary care, which should be given to an AIDS patient.

Prof Seema Hakim, Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology delivered the welcome address, in which she said that HIV Positive people need regular treatment facilities with specialized care and not differentiation from others.

A total of eleven Senior and Junior Residents participated in the competition, which was judged by Prof Tamkin Khan and Prof Zehra Mohsin. The Chief Guests and the Guests of Honour later distributed prizes to the winners.  

Dr Aleena Haider bagged the first prize, while Dr Mehkat Ansari and Dr Khushboo Bansal shared the second prize. Dr Harjeet Kaur, Dr Priyanka and Dr Arthy were given the third prize and Dr Sufiya and Dr Megha Solanki jointly shared the consolation prize. 

All faculty members and non-teaching staff of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology were present on the occasion.



MEDICS and Department of Microbiology organize Health camp to observe World AIDS Day

Aligarh, December 5: Aligarh Muslim University students run MEDICS and the Department of Microbiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College organized Health Camp for free blood tests of HIV, Hepatitis and Haemoglobin at the Maulana Azadnagar area of Aligarh District. The camp was organized to observe the World Aids Day.  

During the Camp, 105 blood samples were collected, while 210 patients were given free consultations.

While addressing the attendants of the camp, the Chief Guest, Professor Haris Manzoor Khan, Medical Superintendent, JNMC, promised more such awareness camps in remote areas of Aligarh.

Meanwhile Dr Mehar Rizvi during the interaction at the camp talked about signs, symptoms, prevention and myths regarding AIDS. 

MEDICS volunteers Mr Chakit, Ms Faiza Sherwani and Ms Fariha did survey regarding awareness in general population.

Prof Abida Malik, Prof  Indu Shukla, Dr Fatima khan, Dr Maroof, Dr Adil, Dr Asif, Bhavesh Pant, Ravneet, Minhaz, Raushan, Sameer and Vishal were also present at the camp.



JNMCH becomes first Govt Hospital to offer coronary angiography in West UP

Aligarh, December 5: The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH) of Aligarh Muslim University reached new heights after it became the first Government Medical College in the Western Uttar Pradesh region to carry out coronary angiography in the recently established Cath Lab of the hospital. The coronary angiography was done free of cost to the first patient availing this facility.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Asif Hasan, Director, Centre of Cardiology informed that now cases of coronary angiography and angioplasty can be done in JNMCH at nominal rates on the lines of AIIMS and PGIMER Chandigarh.  

He also informed that there are plans to start other categories of interventions like the Balloon Mitral Valvotomy for patients of rheumatic heart diseases.

Dr Hasan pointed out that the facility of coronary interventions will be of great help to patients of heart attacks, who have no time to travel out of Aligarh for treatments. He added that this facility will hugely benefit patients from the lower economic strata, who cannot afford treatments in expensive private hospitals.

New cardiology OPDs will now be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at New OPD block for super specialties and non-invasive cardiac investigations like TMT: Holter: Echocardiography will also be conducted at New OPD block.



MS (Surgery) student wins second prize in poster competition at 42nd Annual Conference of Association of Surgeons of India (UP Chapter) 

Aligarh, December 5: Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College’s MS (General Surgery) student, Dr Mohd Reyaz brought laurels to AMU after winning the second prize in a poster competition at the 42nd Annual Conference of Association of Surgeons of India (UP Chapter) held at Allahabad.

Dr Reyaz had presented a paper on ‘Intercostal Artery aneurysm: A rare case scenario’ at the conference, which was attended by over 800 delegates from Uttar Pradesh and other parts of country in the Conference.

Dr Amanjee Bharti a senior Resident in Department of Cardiothoracic surgery was co-author for the poster. The poster work was moderated by Professor M H Beg, Chairperson, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr Mohd Azam Haseen and Dr S Ehtesham Hussain Naqvi.  Prof Mohd Aslam, Chairperson, Department of Surgery congratulated Dr Reyaz for the award and encouraged all post graduate students to present their research work at national and international conferences for valuable exposure and experience.




Dept of Shia Theology to organize National Seminar

Aligarh, December 5: The Department of Shia Thoelogy, Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with Al-Mustafa International University, Iran will organize a National Seminar on topic of ‘Hazrat Imam Husain: The Saviour of Humanity’ at the Kennedy Hall Auditorium on December 5, 2016. The seminar will begin from 9: 30 am onwards.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) will preside over the function, in which Dr Maulana Kalbe Sadiq Sahib will be the key-speaker. AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) and Mr Hujjatul Islam Mohammad Reza Saleh, Chief Representative Al-Mustafa International University will be the Guests of Honour.

The function will also be attended by Mr Syed Sibtey Razi, former governor of Assam and Jharkhand and Giani Gurbachan Singh, the 30th Jathedar of Akal Takht. Leaders of other faiths from various parts of the country are also expected to attend the National Seminar.




International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated at AMU
Aligarh, December 5: On the eve of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Disability Unit in collaboration with Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged, Aligarh Muslim University organized a special program, which included cultural and academic events at the Assembly Hall, University Polytechnic (Boys), AMU.
While addressing the program as Chief Guest, Prof Anis Ismail, former Dean, Student’s Welfare, AMU said that differently-abled people are not less than others in any walk of life. He informed that in the world nearly one billion people suffer disabilities in one form or the other and 80 percent of them live in developing countries.
Prof Ismail said that in spite of being the largest minority in the world, an estimated 50 percent of the differently-abled people are unable to get the general care required for well being. He pointed out that it is a collective responsibility of everyone to bring out the best in the differently-abled people in terms of utilizing skills.
While welcoming the guests, Dr Abdul Hamid Fazili, Coordinator, Disability Unit, AMU, stated that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was announced in 1992 by United Nations. He added that the Disability Unit is dedicated in making AMU campus, a disabled friendly one.
Dr Fazili said that at AMU around 3 percent of job vacancies have been reserved for persons with disabilities. He urged differently-abled people to be aware of their rights and privileges.
Meanwhile, Mrs Firdaus Rehman, Principal, Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged said that the United Nations and the World Health Organization are working hard towards the betterment of the differently abled people. She advised the differently-abled students not to carry the tag of disability on their foreheads but to rather make best possible use of their extraordinary skills.
The program also had a patriotic Ghazal performance by Shahnawaz Ansari, speeches on contemporary issues related to disability in English and Urdu by Fiza Haider and Jadia Asjad.
Neha Ahmad recited an Urdu poem and Imran Hussain performed a ‘Nath’ in Sanskrit.
Pavitra Kumari performed a Bhajan, while there were cultural performances by other students too.
During the program the differently-abled students with extraordinary academic performances were also felicitated. Dr Bilal Ahmad, Counselor and Placement Officer announced the prizes and proposed the vote of thanks.
Mr Manzoor Alam conducted the program.
