of Physiology organises CME cum Workshop
Aligarh,
December 17: The Department of Physiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical
College (JNMC), AMU today organised the CME cum Workshop on ‘Environmental
Stresses on Autonomic and Cardiorespiratory Functions’ at the JNMC Auditorium.
The CME was inaugurated by AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah
(Veteran).
On the occasion, the
Chief Guest, Professor Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, Director, Institute of Nuclear
Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) said that people in today’s world live in various kinds of
stresses due to their life styles, work pressures and family lives.
Talking about
Physiological Environmental Stress, Prof Tripathi said that since this stress
is particularly seen in high latitude cold areas, deserts and dry areas; it is
imperative to work on physiological changes.
Professor Rajiv
Gulati, Organising Secretary of the programme and Chairperson, Department of
Physiology pointed out that with the Industrial Revolution, increasing human
expeditions to non-inhabitable lands like mountains, seas, oceans and deserts
among other things has put people under huge stress. He added that this stress
is mainly due to pollution, climatic changes and radiation exposure.
He also pointed out
that it is the duty of medical professionals to understand intricate
interactions and health hazards minutely so that it becomes easy to find ways
to help the mankind.
Professor M
Amanullah Khan, Dean, Faculty of Medicine emphasised that diabetes, cancer and
blood pressure happen mainly due to stress therefore we will have to use the
simplest methods of de-stressing ourselves. He further said that this CME is a
platform to gain knowledge on ways to de-stress ourselves.
Speaking on
Environmental Stress, Prof Tariq Mansoor, Principal, JNMC said that it is very
important to have a congenial environment to avoid unnecessary stresses, we go
through in our lives.
Prof K K Gupta,
Head, Department of Physiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Col
Anuj Chawla, Head, Department of Physiology, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune
also spoke on the occasion.
Prof D K Agarwal
proposed the vote of thanks and Dr Shariq Aqeel conducted the programme.
Dept
of Statistics and Operations Research starts International Symposium
Aligarh,
December 17: The Department of Statistics and Operations Research,
Aligarh Muslim University today organised the Inaugural Function of VIII
International Symposium on Statistics and Optimization which coincided with the
XXXVI-Annual Convention of Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS)
and Seminar on Statistical Inference, Sampling and Optimization Techniques and
Related Areas (Under SAP-DRS-II).
Professor Taps
Maiti, Michigan State University, USA graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while
Dr Chae Lim, Seoul National University South Korea and Professor A M Mathai,
former president of Indian Mathematical Society attended the programme as
Guests of Honour. Professor Abdul Muneer, Dean, Faculty of Science presided
over the function.
Delivering the keynote
address, Professor Maiti mentioned the importance of Statistics research given
in USA and encouraged the researchers in India to follow the path by addressing
the current challenges of Data Science.
Meanwhile, Prof P R
Reddy during his address highlighted the details of ISPS history, and installation
of new awards, while underlining the new initiatives and plans to be taken up
by ISPS.
Professor Abdul Muneer,
Dean, Faculty of Science encouraged the students and teachers of the university
to interact with the visiting delegates and increase their knowledge.
Earlier, welcoming
the delegates, Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali, Chairman, Department of Statistics and Operations
Research highlighted the achievements and history of the Department.
He pointed out that
in the coming years; there will be intelligent machines like driver less
vehicles and 3D printers that will change the whole society.
Prof Ali further said
that these machines will manufacture things in a couple of hours with minimum
human efforts.
More than 200
delegates from India and abroad attended the International Seminar, in which 40
invited talks will be deliberated and 200 research papers will be
presented.
Professor Aquil
Ahmad, Vice President, ISPS, conducted the programme and also proposed the vote
of thanks.
On the occasion Prof
A M Mathai, Prof K Srinivasa Rao and Prof A N Balakrishnan from Canada were
conferred with the Professor C R Rao Life Time Achievement award, Distinguished
Statistician Award and Fellow of ISPS Award respectively.
