‘Foundation
Day’ celebrated in AMU Dental College
Aligarh,
December 22: Dr Z A Dental College Society, Aligarh Muslim
University recently celebrated the ‘Foundation Day’ of the Z A Dental College
with a week-long programme, ‘Quindeel’. AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer
Uddin Shah (Veteran) attended the function as the Chief Guest in which Ms Syeda
Quratulain Mazhar was awarded the title of ‘Student of the Year’ while Batch
2013 was given the title of the ‘Batch of the year.’
While addressing the
function, General Shah said that the University, with its resources, is doing
the best for the Dental College and we know that this College has the best of
talents and academic excellence in the University.
Gen Shah urged the
students and the faculty members of the Dental College to move fast in academic
excellence, while securing the safety and interests of their future and the
University.
“It is hoped that
Dental College will keep on reaching new heights and the students and teachers
of the college will continue bringing laurels to the University,” also said the
Vice Chancellor.
Prof Rajendra Kumar Tewari,
Acting Principal, Z A Dental College pointed out that since the foundation of
this college, a lot has been achieved. He added that the number of post
graduate seats in various streams of the Dental College has been increased and
we await the approval of the Government for two more seats for MDS and two
seats for non-academic junior residents.
“We are extremely
thankful to the Vice Chancellor and the University administration for doing the
needful in the interest of the Dental College,” said Prof Tewari adding that we
need further improvements like the installation of a solar plant in the college
premises to meet the power requirements and smooth functioning of the college.
Prof Amanullah Khan,
Dean, Faculty of Medicine pointed out that it has been 20-years, since the
establishment of the Z A Dental College. The then Vice Chancellor, Dr Mahmoodur
Rahman’s vision of establishing this Dental College and making this college a
quality centre of learning is now reaching new heights with the present administration’s
dedication and cooperation.
Prof Khan urged the
students and teachers of the Dental College to carry out useful co-curricular
activities throughout the year.
Prof Tariq Mansoor,
Principal and CMS, JN Medical College and Hospital said that the University
stands proud of the Dental College alumni, who are spread all over the world
and who are contributing to society with their hard work. Meanwhile, Prof
Mansoor also urged the Dental College students and teachers to also work on
outreach programmes.
While delivering the
Welcome address, Dr Kamran Ahmad Zaidi, President, Dr Z A Dental College
Society urged the Vice Chancellor to bring in additional PG seats in various
courses offered by the College.

Cultural Secretary, Dr Z A Dental College Society read out the College Week
Report. Ms Shagufta Farheen, Vice President, Dr Z A Dental College Society
conducted the programme while Mr Mohammad Arman, Secretary of the Society
proposed the vote of thanks.
On the Occasion, the Vice Chancellor and his wife Mrs
Sabiha Seemi Shah, Prof Amanullah Khan, Prof Tariq Mansoor and Prof R K Tewari
and Prof H S Hashmi distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions
held during the celebrations.
JNMC
Assistant Professor to attend World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies,
Singapore
Aligarh,
December 22: Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) Assistant
Professor, Dr Asmat Ali associated with the Department of Neurosurgery will
soon leave for Singapore to attend the prestigious World Federation of
Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) with an International fellowship to be trained
in the renowned National Neuroscience Institute with a focus on
Neuro-endovascular and endoscopic spine for a period of six-months.
Dr Ali had said that
this training will be very helpful for development and improvement of
Department of Neurosurgery, JNMC. He added that the training will also help in
teaching of postgraduate students.
Dr Ali is a M Ch Neurosurgery from the G B Pant
Institute of Post-graduate Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, New Delhi and
M S (General Surgery) from JNMC, Aligarh Muslim University. He is also a member
of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow. Dr Ali did his MBBS from JNMC.

School Teachers Association declares Office Bearers and Unit Representatives

December 22: The Aligarh Muslim University School Teachers Association
has declared the list of elected Office Bearers and Unit Representatives.
Mrs Arshi Zafar
Khan, PGT, AMU Girls High School has been elected as the President while Mr
Mohd Allam, PGT, STS School has been elected as the Vice President.
Mr Mohd Abu Noman,
PGT, AMU City School is now the General Secretary; Mr Md Javed Akhter, TGT,
City Girls High School is the Joint Secretary and Mr Mahendra Pratap Singh,
TGT, Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged has joined as the Treasurer.
Meanwhile, the post of Auditor remains vacant as there were no nominations
filed for the post.
Mr Malik Mohd Arshad, TGT, STS School; Mr Syed Ahmad
Raza, PGT, AMU City School; Mrs Naheeda Jabeen, PRT, AMU Girls High School; Mr

AMU VC inaugurate Visitors Room of Allama Iqbal Boarding
House
Aligarh, December 22:
The Vice Chancellor Lt. General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) inaugurated the
waiting room of Allama Iqbal Boarding House for parents and guardians who visit
their children and wards. The Waiting Room is equipped with all the facilities
required to make it comfortable for parents and other visitors. The need of
such a designated place for parents to meet their wards was being felt for
long.
Speaking on the occasion the Vice Chancellor exhorted
the students to take optimum advantage of all the facilities provided to them
in Boarding House and School. While interacting with head boy and other post
holders the Vice Chancellor expressed happiness over disciplined and decent
environment in School and Boarding House. He urged the students to join army if
they have passion to serve their country and community with pride. The Vice
Chancellor apprised the students of pride and privileges attached with career
in army.
The Vice Chancellor also visited the playground of AIBH
where the Football and Basketball matches were on, he talked to the players and
motivated them to give their best in whatever career they choose for themselves,
the sports can also be a better career option, the V.C. pointed out.
The Principal Maj S M Mustafa (Retd.) briefed the Vice
Chancellor about the academics and co-curricular activities of the School and
AIBH. Prominent among those who were present in the inaugural ceremony were

Refresher Course in Library & Information Sciences Concludes
Aligarh, December 22:
The three weeks Subject Refresher Course in
Library & Information Sciences concluded at the UGC Human Resource
Development Centre, Aligarh Muslim University. 40 University College teachers
from various state including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir,
Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and several cities of UP had enrolled for this
course.
Emeritus Professor
Farhatullah Khan, Department of English, AMU was the chief guest of the
valedictory programme in which he distributed the certificates of
participation. Addressing the gathering he said that librarians are the keepers
of knowledge. He added that the Maulana Azad Library of the Aligarh Muslim
University is one of the best libraries of the country and it has valuable
traditions of documentation. He advised the participants to make strong bonds
with books.
Professor Abdur
Rahim Kidwai, Director UGC Human Resource Development Centre, AMU congratulated
the participants on their success. He said that they should take back the
lessons of social cohesion, neighbourly needs and equitable justice from the
UGC HRDC, AMU. He said that the AMU has always been a citadel of secularism and
tolerance.

The Feedback opinion

Aligarh, December 22:
Prof. M. Tariq Zaidi, Department of Anatomy,
JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh has been appointed as
Chairman Vice Prof. Nafees Ahmad Farooqui for a period of three years with
immediate effect.
Meanwhile Prof.
Subuhi Khan Provost Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, being the next senior most Provost
by rotation, has been declared as a member of the University Court vice Prof.
(Mrs.) Farrukh Arjmand with immediate effect.
RCERA confers Prof
Nasrin with Fellowship Award
Aligarh, December
22:
Professor Nasrin, Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University has been
conferred with the Fellowship Award by the Rajasthan Council of Educational
Research and Administration (RCERA) for her outstanding contribution in the
field of Women-Empowerment.
While
awarding Prof Nasrin, the RCERA has observed that she is an enthusiastic and
dedicated teacher and researcher and has contributed generously for the
upliftment of Muslim Women.
As
an earnest social worker, Prof Nasrin’s area of thrust is job stress and occupational
aspirations. Her research interest and focus areas are Environmental Education,
Education Technology, Curriculum Development, Teaching Interest : Methodology
of Teaching Science. Her articles and papers have been published in journals of
national and international repute.
RDA
and Dept of Community Medicine organise free health camp at Mirzapur Siya
Aligarh,
December 22: Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College’s Resident Doctors
Association (RDA) in association with the Department of Community Medicine
recently conducted a free health camp at the Aligarh Muslim University’s
adopted village, Mirzapur Siya in Aligarh district, in which free consultation
and medicines were provided to 285 patients suffering with various ailments.
Dr Ammar Javed,
Secretary, RDA informed that at least 12 Resident doctors from Departments of
Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Medicine, Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics and Community Medicine
attended 285 villagers including children, middle aged people, adolescent girls
and women of child bearing age and elderly.
He added that the
camp was specifically beneficial for patients suffering with diabetes, hypertension,
cataract, eye infections and skin diseases.
While the RDA
arranged resident doctors and medicines for the camp, the Department of
Community Medicine arranged transport and helping staff for the camp site.

Pro Vice Chancellor delivers ‘Motivational
Lecture’ on ‘Role of Time Management in Career Building’
Aligarh,
December 22: AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali
(Veteran) recently delivered a ‘Motivational Lecture’ on ‘Role of Time
Management in Career Building’. The programme was organized by the Coaching and
Guidance Cell of Sir Syed Hall (South), Aligarh Muslim University.
During his address, Brigadier
Ali pointed out that the real challenge about time management is actually
managing self.
He added that since
everyone has only 24-hours in a day, it is imperative to earn and master the
art of creating maximum carpet area in minimum time to become a leader out of
the ordinary.
“With time
management abilities, people can become better professionals with less
stressful lives,” said the Pro Vice Chancellor adding that it is important to
plan days accordingly by dividing tasks into sub-tasks and accomplishing
them.
Brig Ali urged
students to stay organized with daily planning and attentiveness.
He asked students to
study the subjects, which they find uninteresting and difficult before taking
up subjects of their interest to carry on their studies in a smooth way.
“It is also
important to be clear in having short and long term goals and to be abreast in
preparations of competitive exams,” said the Pro Vice Chancellor.
Talking on the
importance of government jobs, Brigadier Ali urged students on becoming
important government officers of various administrative and other
services.
On the occasion, the
Pro Vice Chancellor also distributed prizes to the winners of ‘Open Debate
Competition’ organized by Sir Syed Hall (South). Mr Mateen Ashraf (BA Second
year) received the first prize, while BUMS students Mohd Zafar and Mohd
Abdullah received second and third prizes respectively.
Professor Mohd
Ismail, Provost, Sir Syed hall (South) also urged students to do best in the
preparations of competitive exams. He added that AMU students have the right
facilities and proper guidance of their teachers and support of the
administration.
He further added
that students should avail the facilities provided to them, while working hard
to achieve their goals.

Warden-Incharge, S S Hall (South) was also present on the occasion. Mr Mohd
Arshad, Secretary, CGC conducted the programme and also proposed the vote of

UGC HRD Centre
organises Workshop on ‘Digital Payment’
Aligarh, December
22:
The UGC Human Resource Development Centre, Aligarh Muslim University recently organised
a Workshop on ‘Digital Payment’ as part of Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan (VISAKA)
campaign of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
In
the campaign, MHRD has asked Vice Chancellors of Central Universities to take
steps on educating people on digital payments with the help of student
volunteers.
More
than 100 teachers from various parts of India including Assam, Bihar, Delhi,
Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Telengana and Uttar Pradesh attended
the workshop. The employees and staff members of the UGC HRDC, AMU also
participated in the workshop.
These
University and college teachers are also attending Winter School courses in
Disaster Management and the Subject Refresher Course in different languages at
the UGC HRDC, AMU.
During
the workshop, a team of eight volunteers from the Department of Computer
Science, Aligarh Muslim University trained the participants in various methods
of digital payment.
Research
scholars Mr Shahab Saquib Sohail, Mr Ausaf Ahmad, Mr Riaz Ahmad, Mr Shabbir
Hassan, Mr Mohammad Oqail Ahmad, Ms Suby Khanam, Mr Rizwan Alam, and Mr Jeetesh
Saraswat provided hands on training for opening UPI (Unified Payment
Interface), USSD and Paytm accounts.
Professor
Abdur Rahim Kidwai, Director, UGC Human Resource Development Centre, AMU
thanked the volunteers and urged everyone to join hands in the national
campaign for a smooth transition to a cashless economy, free of corruption and
black money by making the best use of digital India.
While
facilitating the Workshop, Dr Faiza Abbasi, Assistant Director, UGC, HRD Centre
said that by never sharing password/OTP/CVV/PIN on phone, e-mail or text
messages, people can keep e-transactions safe from hackers.
She
also congratulated those course participants, who successfully set up e-wallets
in their smart phones during the workshop.
A highlight of the Workshop was a PowerPoint
presentation by Mr Shahab Saquib Sohail, who demonstrated data mining processes
to reassure the faith of the general public in the security of e-cash. In the
presentation, he pointed out that the maintenance cost of e-money is lowest as
compared with Cash, Debit or Credit cards, cheques and RTGS.
