Conference on Spiritual Psychology concludes
ALIGARH November 23: The Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University recently concluded the National Conference on ‘Spiritual Psychology in Practice’ under UGC-SAP (DRS Phase-I).
While delivering the Key-note address, Professor S S Nathawat, from the Amity University, Jaipur talked about the role and importance of spirituality for essential well-being in complete physical, mental and social aspects.
He further said that spiritual health depends on ‘Reciprocal’ and ‘Giving’ aspects and ‘Giving’ is more important to be meaningful in life. He added that spirituality is to help others through giving and tackling the day-to-day problems.
Prof Nathawat also said that happiness and meaningfulness differ from each other as happiness is related with the present, while meaningfulness essentially depends on one’s past, present and future. He further urged people to be positive, have balanced emotions and relationships with meaningful life and sense of achievement.
Delivering the Presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) said that the mind works, when it is given strength. He added that it is imperative to know that this strength comes from belief. 
 “It is important to be positive in life and avoid being judgmental,” said the Vice Chancellor adding that people should always try to be happy and they should also try to minimize their needs.
He also urged people to avoid anything that bring state of unhappiness in them and at the same time to be positive in all domains of life.
During a special lecture in the programme, Guest of Honour, Dr Kumkum Srivastava, Delhi University talked about how Sufism leads to realisation of truth. Dr Srivastava threw light on how Sufism enlightened inner being. She further talked about how people who visit shrines feel spiritually enlighten.
While giving the welcome address, Professor Mohd Ilyas Khan, Organizing Secretary of the programme said that he is thankful to the AMU administration in general and the Vice Chancellor in particular for necessary support in making the programme successful. Besides welcoming the guest speakers for attending the programme, Prof Ilyas also welcomed all faculties, research scholars and academicians.
Prof Akbar Husain proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Reshma Jamal conducted the programme. 
Sadaf Anjum, Sara Javed and Suhail Rafiq Mir were actively involved in the successfully organization of the conference.

Prof Shameem appointed as Chairman

Aligarh, November 23: Professor Mohammad Shameem has been appointed as Chairman, Department of T B and Respiratory diseases, J N Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University for a period of three years, with immediate effect. As a Fellow Royal College of Physicians Edinburg FRCP (Edin.), Prof Shameem is the only chest physician and youngest faculty member in AMU to have received this honour.


AMU declares dates for Winter and Summer breaks

Aligarh, November 23: The Aligarh Muslim University has declared the Winter and Summer Vacations for the 2016-17 academic session. According to an official communiqué, the Winter Vacations will be from January 2, 2017 to January 16, 2017, while Summer Vacations will be from June 5, 2017 to July 29, 2017.

However, the notification for Winter Vacations for the Faculty of Medicine and Unani Medicine will be issued separately.



Debating and Literary Club, AMU concludes Inter-School Quiz

Aligarh, November 23: The Debating and Literary Club, Aligarh Muslim University recently concluded ‘INQUIZITIVE’, Inter-School Quiz Competition, which was held at the Kennedy Hall Auditorium. Around 43 teams participated in the preliminary round of the competition, while six teams of AMU ABK Union, Blossoms Public School, Senior Secondary School (AMU) and Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School (AMU) qualified for the finals.

Mohd Zaid, Maaz Syed and Mohd Sabeeh Ahmad of Senior Secondary School Boys (AMU) bagged the first Prize. Anas Ahmad, Abbas Khan and S A Daniyal Mustafa of the Blossoms School stood second while Mohd Aadil Akhlaque, Aazib Manzoor and Mohd Rezaullah of Senior Secondary School Boys (AMU) won the third position. The participants were quizzed on the topics ranging from history and business to literature and trivia.
     
Mr Manzar Jamal, Director, Ayesha Tarin Trust, who attended the function as the Chief Guest addressed the participants and commended their enthusiasm. Law student, Mr Wajahat Jilani delivered the introductory remarks to begin the event while engineering students Mr Aasif Akhlaque and Asif Khan with their team of volunteers ensured the smooth functioning of the programme. Mr Rajnish Kumar Jha proposed the vote of thanks.



Dept of English organizes Raleigh Literary Society’s Inaugural Function

Aligarh, November 23: Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) and Pro Vice Chancellor Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) recently attended the Inaugural Function of the Department of English’s Raleigh Literary Society as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively. The event took place at the University’s Kennedy Hall Auditorium.    

During his address at the Function, the Vice Chancellor congratulated Professor Seemin Hasan, Chairperson, Department of English, who is also the patron of the Raleigh Literary Society and the teachers-in charge Dr Aysha Munira and Dr Vibha Sharma for successfully organizing the programme. Gen Shah greatly appreciated the efforts of the actors and laid emphasis on the traditional and cultural aspects of AMU.

During the Inaugural Function, the Raleigh Literary Society presented two plays. The first play was an adaptation of ‘Waiting for Godot,’ a satire on the social endowment, in which the characters of Gogo and Didi along with Mr Ban and Mr Question lay bare the problems of the common man. The characters in the play accentuated how it feels when the power to speak, express, and to question is taken away.

The second play was Hayavadana, which highlights the tussle between the head and mind. The play concludes with the concept that ‘completeness is individual.’

The event was introduced by Zakira Saiwa, while Anum Fatima and Sana Fatima conducted the programme. Vardha Manzar proposed the vote of thanks.
