Aligarh, November 27: The Training and Placement Office (General), Aligarh Muslim University today organized the HR Meet-2016. The Inaugural Function of the Meet was held at the Kennedy Hall Auditorium. IPS officer and Ex-MP Dr Ajoy Kumar, Country Head JSS Medical Research India Ltd, Ex-General Manager (Tata Sons), Ex-CEO (Cummins in India) attended the Function as the Chief Guest, while AMU Alumnus Ms Manvi Agarwal, Assistant Director with the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Mr Rajeev Kumar Singh, Head (Global Campus), Wipro Technologies attended the Function as the Guests of Honour.
While delivering his address, the Chief Guest Dr Ajoy Kumar urged the students to enter professions of their interest instead of following what everyone is doing. He added that students need to be very clear on why they are joining a particular profession.
“The choice of a right profession is one of the most dreadful tasks a student has to face in his transition from college to corporate,” said Mr Kumar adding that earlier students had only a few choices like engineering, medicine, teaching, government service, etc, but post liberalization, a number of new industries have emerged, providing today’s generation with countless career options.
He further said that the career choice you make determines a huge part of the rest of your life. “After all, you spend large parts of your life working and the choice for a career or profession is not an easy one,” said Mr Kumar adding that if you find out you have chosen the wrong profession, it is even more important to carefully think about the next step.
While emphasizing on the importance of internships, Mr Kumar said that student and graduate ‘internships’ are very important, because they substantially increase the chance of graduates finding employment.  “To an employer, a candidate who has spent time working for a firm within a particular industry shows dedication to a particular career, enthusiasm for a particular job and importantly, has experience is essential in the hiring process,” said Mr Kumar.
While delivering the presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) pointed out that to be successful in life, it is important to be brilliant at your work.
Giving example of Bollywood actor, Naseeruddin Shah, the Vice Chancellor said that before he entered the cinema world—people use to mock him for his looks. “But, Naseer was brilliant in his work to prove everybody wrong by becoming one of the best actors in India and by winning many awards,” said Gen Shah.
He also pointed out that as firm believer in women empowerment; he knows that communities cannot progress unless their women are educated. “We will remain backward if we don’t empower our women,” said the Vice Chancellor.
Talking on the importance of team work, Gen Shah said that employers look for people with team work skills and not extraordinary people, who work alone. “AMU has been ranked among the best Indian Universities and has been given the ‘A’ Grade by the NAAC Officials because there was a team work in AMU,” said the Vice Chancellor. He added that a team work of academicians, administration, students and other possible departments and offices of AMU made it possible for AMU to achieve this position.
AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) in his Key-note address urged students to read and to be life-long learners to succeed in life. He further urged students to learn the art of transforming failures into success and never surrender to failures.
Brigadier Ali further said that it is important to gain knowledge with wisdom, to have strong characters with emotional quotients, to be very hard-working and pre-set aims to be successful in careers and life. He added that it is important for universities to have their products ready for industry before they graduate.
Brigadier Ali urged students to take a shot at competitive exams and to be future leaders.
Addressing the HR officials and corporate world honchos attending the Meet, the Pro Vice Chancellor said that their presence motivates and inspires everyone in the Aligarh Muslim University.
He also said that we live in a country with many assets. “In India, even the excess population is our strength as we can see educated Indians working and contributing significantly to societies in all parts of the world,” said the Pro Vice Chancellor adding that the Indian diaspora is well respected all over the world.
Guest of Honour, Mr Rajeev Kumar Singh, Head, Global Campus, Wipro Technologies said Wipro is a consistent recruiter of AMU pass-outs specifically the engineering and computer applications graduates.
Addressing the students, Mr Singh urged them to take notice of mega trends happening around the fiercely competitive world.
“The world is going more digital everyday with a rise in the socially relevant business concepts and role of nationalism all over the world,” said Mr Singh adding that our graduates need to be abreast with all the necessary changes to find a place in the very competitive world.
AMU Alumnus Ms Manvi Agarwal, who works as an Assistant Director with the Minsitry of Women and Child Development said getting a job soon after graduation is only a small part of the battle as the bigger challenge is to survive in the corporate world.
She added that industry wants to hire employers, who are all-rounders. “It is equally important to have excellent communication and soft skills along with the technical knowledge of the jobs.
Ms Agarwal further said that hard-work is the key to success and it is equally important to land in the jobs of interests, where people can perform their best. “Be prepared for hard work, whether you want to enter into a government job or a job with a multi-national and remember that there is no short-cut to success,” said Ms Agarwal.

Prof M S Ansari attends International Congress of Entomology in US

Aligarh, November 23: Professor Mohammad Shafiq Ansari recently attended the XXV International Congress of Entomology in Orlando, Florida, USA where he presented a research paper on ‘Biology of Thrips tabaci Lindeman on onion cultivars’ in the technical session of Agricultural and Forest Entomology.

During the paper presentation, Prof Ansari stressed that the management of Thrips tabaci is very important as it causes heavy damage and is also a predominant vector of Iris Yellow Spot Virus in onion crops throughout the world.

He further stated that the biological parameters of this insect should be studied before formulation of management program. The paper was highly appreciated by scientists attending the session. During the paper presentation, Prof Ansari also talked about the development of Science of Entomology.

This congress is held after every four years. It was attended by 6,682 delegates from 102 countries of the world. A total of 5,396 scientific papers were presented, which were contributed by 58.14% from USA and 41.86% from other countries of the world.

Prof Ansari is associated with the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University. He has guided eight PhD students. He has also established first apiary for research and teaching purpose in the Department of Plant Protection. Prof Ansari has completed two major research projects as Principal Investigator on the management of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella on cabbage and cauliflower and a third project as CO-PIon, the management of fruit fly through nematode as bioagent.

Prof Ansari has published 5 books, 68 research papers and 5 book chapters besides contributing to scientific journals on international and national repute. He is a regional councillor of Indian Society for the Advances of Insect Science, India and reviewer of refereed journals like Journal of Economic Entomology, Crop Protection, and Entomological Research among others.
